It was time for the 5th round of the Victorian Country Series. I pitted with Liam Pollard (#4 KA4 Junior Heavy), Sam Gibson (#72 KA3 Junior), Lotem Ben Yosef (#8 KA3 Senior Light) and Vern Kranz (#18 Victorian Combined Masters). Practice was fun to get used to the track again and work out the setup. Lotem unfortunately has a fractured arm and was unable to race. Best wishes to him. We were runing old tyres this weekend, so we weren't expecting much.
Qualifying:
I qualified P5.
Heat 1:
I started the race well around turn 1, but into turn 3 there was a stack and me and another competitor were sent to the back (21 karts in the race) and had to work our way through the field. I charged back up through the field, and came P10.
Heat 2:
Because of progressive grid, I started P10. I worked with another quick karter and got back up to P5.
Final:
I started P7 for the final, and got to P5 by then end of lap 1. I was quick enough to pass for P4, and was on his bumper for the entire race. I just couldn't get past with his defensive lines. I also went two wide in a battle for P5/6 on the last two sweepers at the end of the track, and came out on top in P5. Really good racing.
Overall a fun weekend, but still searching for the elusive first big win.
BRADEN CLARK, #18 KA4 JUNIOR HEAVY.

2019 Australasian Kart Titles at Numurkah
This weekend we raced at Numurkah for the 2019 Australasian Kart Titles. We pitted with Sam Gibson (#72 KA3 Junior). We did a few practice sessions and were confident for qualifying.
Qualifying:
I qualified P3, but lost a tenth to my best practice time. That time would still of qualified me 3rd though, so it wasn't too bad.
Heat 1:
I got a nice start and moved into second for the first 2 laps, but then my friend Josh Hocking (#2 KA4 Heavy) passed me, and then dropped a chain in front of me, which caused 3 people to fly past me on the straight. Finished P5.
Heat 2:
I started P3 again for Heat 2, and once again got a nice start into P2. But over the course of the race, I had no pace and eventually dropped back down to P7.
Heat 3:
I started P5 for Heat 3. I finally got some pace back from practice, but everyone also got faster. I stayed P5 for most of the race, but then I was passed by Josh, and then gained P5 back when someone got ran off the track.
Final:
I started P5 for the final, and I got to P4 on the start. I stayed P4 for most of the race, but then someone in front was ran off, and I was now in chase for P3. Put coming around turn 3, my motor seized. Weekend over on the second last lap.
Overall it was a fun weekend, going to a new track and doing as well as I did.

City of Melbourne Titles 2019
It was time fro the City of Melbourne titles for 2019. This was a really huge race, with 355 entrants. I only had 13 in my class, but it was still the best of the best. I had done a bit of practice leading up to the meeting, and was feeling pretty confident. We pitted once again with Liam and Cam Pollard, and also this time with Lotem and Yariv Ben Yosef. It was at the pits on the main straight so not very close to the grid.
Practice went well on Friday, setting some decent laps and judging myself against the other drivers.
Saturday was to include Qualifying, Heat 1 and Heat 2.
Qualifying
Qualifying went pretty well, I qualified 2nd with a 44:856, which was 0.038 off pole.
Heat 1 - 10 laps.
Heat 1 was looking like it might of been wet, but it wasn't raining yet so the whole field was on slicks. I got a nice start, and was first by the first corner. But then, halfway around the second lap, It began to rain. I pulled a sizeable margin, but slowly was caught and passed for 1st on the 7th lap. I finished 2nd. Also got the fastest lap by 2 tenths.
Heat 2 - 10 laps.
Heat 2 was the driest race of the weekend. I started P2 again, and didn't get as good a start, and was side by side in a battle for 2nd into dogleg. I stuck it around the outside, and headed onwards in the chase of 1st. On lap 8/10, I was passed for 2nd and had a battle to the end and eventually resulting in my coming 3rd.
Sunday
Heat 3 - 12 laps.
Heat 3 was wets, and I was starting P3. I got a really bad start by understeer on the last corner, resulting in my dropping to 5th by the end of the first lap. I got back to 4th by the 5th lap, and had a battle for 3rd at the end, but I came 4th.
Final - 17 laps.
I was starting 4th for the final, and went for the outside of turn 1, and would of been P2 by the exit but it was a risky move and the kart had no grip, and I didn't pull it off. I slipped wide and sort of half spun. I dropped all the way back to 12th, and charged back through the field. By lap 2, I had already made 4 moves, and was back in 8th. I flew past another one on the straight on lap 4 for 7th, and made another move on lap 6 and then someone spun so I was back to 5th by lap 7. I then passed Liam on lap 9 for 4th and then the chase was on. The podium I deserved was right there. I tried twice on lap 13, and twice on lap 14. I got 3rd on the 4th try. I then had my head down for the last 3 laps, driving as fast as I could and making sure I didn't get passed. I finished 3rd.
Overall It was a great weekend, and I believe that I finished were I deserved. Bring on the Australasian Titles!

VCS Round 4 - Hamilton
This track is my favourite.
We stayed with Liam Pollard at Josh Clay's place for the weekend, so thanks to Josh and his family.
We really hoped to finally be at the front this weekend.
We were quick in practice, but hoped to be a bit faster for Quali.
Qualifying
In Qualifying I but in a good lap and came P3 with a 32.957. 1.3 tenths of 1st and 0.1 tenths of 2nd.
Heat 1
In Heat 1 I got to 2nd instantly and got to the lead not long after but then Johnny got me back and I finished there. Johnny and I were half a second quicker than anyone else. P2.
Heat 2.
Heat 2 was a wet race this time, I started and finished in P2. Not much happened.
Final.
Starting P2 again for the final I got to the lead after a few laps and pulled a gap until I caught lap traffic. Under blue flags, the crashed into eachother and I was sent to the grass all the way down the back straight, which means I was going about 90km/h down muddy, wet grass. Johnny got back infront, but I passed him 2 corners later. This time, my gap was gone and I kept getting lap traffic. I lead until he got me at the start of the last lap. P2 with the fastest lap.
Should of been my win this weekend, but great job to Johnny. Thanks to Bob from Australian Go Kart Spares, Dean from DSI, Dad, and Liam and Cam Pollard.

VCS Round 3 - Cobden
I hoped to continue my strong performance from States here.
In Qualifying I came P6. Nice.
In Heat 1 we were on the wrong tyres and cooked the wets. Finished P14.
Heat 2 was wet but since the wets became slicks we were really slow. Was dead last at one point but finished P14.
The Final was really bad, I got beaten my P platers. Once again it was the wet with practically slick tyres so no pace, but somehow finished P11.
Rubbish weekend, hopefully better in Hamilton.

Victorian Kart Championships 2019 (Blue Plate)
The big event was here. The State Championships. This was the weekend where I thought that I would finally be right up there on pace. We were staying at the track in our caravan.
There was 5 practices, the last to determine your position to start on the grid for qualifying. I started on P9. Qualifying was good, I did a 47.76 according to speedhive, but a 47.44 according to the mychron. That would of been P5 but I was P8. We also had a problem with the motor and made us use the practice motor until the final.
Heat 1 was disappointing, I had a small stack at the start and somehow bent an axle. Headache race. I still got to 7th by the end of the first lap. Slowly dropped back to P9.
Heat 2 was the best finishing position of the weekend in P6, with great battles with Josh Hocking and Zack Thompson.
Heat 3 Had a big crash at the start, resulting in me backwards for turn 2, and then T-boned by another driver. Still managed to finish, but way down the order in P11.
Heat 4 was a pretty good start where I held P6, but then dropped a spot to P7 and then run off the track by another driver put me to P9, and then a collision at bus stop resulted in my dropping all the way back to P13 and finished there.
The final was the best race of the weekend, 20 laps so therefore 20kms. I got to P7 at the start and held it there for the entire race, just behind P5 and 6. 5th fastest lap.
A really fun weekend, but could of been better.

VCS Round 2 - Portland
Finally time for racing again, hoping for some improvement from Warrnambool. We pitted with Liam Pollard again as we have all year. We really wanted a consistent front-runner result.
Qualifying
I Qualified 6th out of 19, which I was pretty happy with.
Quali Results:
1. #95 38.762 Josh D'Ambrosio

9. #10 39.212 Sam Davies
10. #99 39.212 Jay Racovalis

18. #63P 40.353 Adam Henriksen
19. #76P 40.656 Lachlan Clark
Heat 1.
It began raining on the grid and we didn't have enough time to change to wets. I dropped to 12th off the start, followed by a synchronised spin with Liam. We both rejoined, and I let him through on the next straight as he was on wets. I was 5 tenths a lap faster than anyone else on slicks, and another 2.9 seconds a lap quicker than the third fastest on slicks. Finished 11th.
Heat 2.
Starting 11th, I moved to 9th off the start. Made a move on Riley on lap 4, followed by a really fun battle with Sam on lap 5, and passed back by Riley on lap 6. Finished 7th.
Final.
Starting 11th I got a fouled plug on the roll around laps. I moved to 5th on the first lap, which was really good, but there was a full course yellow making my plug even worse. I tried tuning the carby but was unable to get it right. When we went back to racing, I dropped 1 position every lap for 3 laps, and stayed in 8th for the rest of the race. Got a 3 sec penalty for crossing the line at the start when I was trying to tune my carby.
Overall the most fun weekend of racing so far, but I am looking to be much more consistently at the front. I was having fun now through, unlike Top Guns. I will hopefully be much quicker at VKS Blue Plate at Puckapunyal.

Heat 2.
Starting last (20th), I made it all the way to 11th by the end but got a penalty and put back to 12th.
Final.
Starting 16th, I made it to 10th by the end of lap 1. Made it to 9th when one racer had a spin and tie rod snap. On the last lap there was chaos at the double left. Jay Racovalis got run back, and I had no where to go but on to his left rear tyre and side pod. Managed to drop off and pass him. Really bad luck for him, especially since he was running in 4th.

OGKRC Junior Top Guns 2019
For the first race of 2019, we had blown up 5 motors trying to get as fast as possible. This was extremely tedious and frustrated me a lot. I was exited though, finally racing again.
Round 1
Qualifying
I Qualified 4th with a 42:754. 0.387 off pole.
Results:
1. Joel Johnson #5 - 42.367
2. Josh D'Ambrosio #95 - 42.377
3. Riley Jabke #44 - 42.710
4. Braden Clark #18 - 42.754

8. Billy Bishop #12 - 43.256
9. Charlee Richardson #16 - 43.410
10. Ryan Cook #28 - 43.492
Heat 1.
I got taken out at turn 2.
Heat 2.
Starting 4th again, I got to 3rd off the start and stayed there until lap 6 of 14 where I got passed and was 4th again.
Final
Starting what was now last, 9th, I got to 4th by not even a full lap. I was going strong until lap 5 where the motor seized. I couldn't believe it. I was in tears and could hardly think straight.
Overnight, I had a lot of thinking to do. I didn't really want to race the next day and was pretty fed up with Karting, the fact that I get taken out 60% of all races and blowing up an engine every time I went to the track. I was amazed I even completed Qualifying considering we blew up the motor the day before. I decided I would race the next day, but I discussed with dad that if I blow up another engine or get taken out, I would no longer be a Karter.
Round 2
Qualifying
We used Jai's motor today, and only managed 6th in Qualifying with a 42.775. I was 0.592 off pole, which is a lot.
Heat 1.
Stayed 6th the whole time. Happy that I finished.
Heat 2.
Starting 6th again, I got to 2nd and stayed there until lap 2 where I was passed and then twice on lap 3. Now 5th, I climbed back and passed on lap 11 for 4th. I was so happy that I was able to finish in a decent position. I had hope in Karting again.
Final
Starting 5th, I got to 4th until lap 4, where I was back to 5th. Managed to finish there for the rest of the 18 lap race.
Overall
I finished 5th for the second day, and finsihed 9th overall. I felt that I deserved to be 5th place overall.
I want to forget this weekend that was Top Guns 2019, and now I was to look forward to Warrnambool for round 1 of the VCS.
